D'Addario Kids' Academy (Podunk Bluegrass Kids' Academy)

2009 Kids' Academy

See the other kids' activies:

During the festival we offer an instructional and performance program for young bluegrass musicians age 8 to 18. Individual and group instruction will be provided by our professional staff. The Kids' Academy will present a group performance on the Main Stage on Sunday morning. Check out pictures from our 2006 program!

See parents had to say about our program!

Our Instructors

This year's program will be under the direction of Vicki Baker and Tim St. Jean who also run the program at Strawberry Park in Preston, CT. Learn more about Vicki and Tim and all the other great instructors.

Registering Your Child

Fee: There is no charge to participate.

Tickets: Kids 12 and under are admitted free to Podunk. Kids 13 and up need a ticket to attend the festival. Please visit our ticket page to purchase tickets.

To register your child, download the Registration form (PDF requires Acrobat Reader), fill in all questions, and e-mail it to vbaker220@hotmail.com or mail it to Vicki Baker, PO Box 215, Putnam, CT 06260.

Enrollment Requirements

Before enrolling, please ensure your child meets the following criteria:

  1. Can attend ALL the classes and the performance (see schedule on Registration form)
  2. Will be of school age (8-18 years) and have some basic skills on their instrument
  3. Supply his or her own instrument (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, or bass)

Recommendations

    1. Podunk Bluegrass Academy is designed for kids age 8 to 18. However, if your child is younger but has been taking lessons, plays his/her instrument with basic proficiency, AND has an adequate attention span, we will consider accepting him or her if room allows.
    2. We recommend that students bring a tuner to class with them. This can be an electronic tuner (such as those made by Intellitouch), a tuning fork, or pitch pipe. Guitar and banjo students should bring a capo suitable for their instrument.
